Why We Love Paranormal Romance? / #Giveaway & Guest Post by Tamara Hoffa

Why We Love Paranormal Romance?

What an interesting question. Why do we love paranormal romance? Well, I can’t speak for the public as a whole, I can only give you my opinion. I have been a PR reader for over thirty years. Like Barbra Mandrell said I was Country when Country Wasn’t Cool, I was into paranormal romance before it was “the thing.”
The things I love about paranormal romance are the endless possibilities. In PR anything can happen. The author creates the world anyway he or she desires. People can turn into animals. Vampires roam the earth for eternity. Aliens, cyborgs, angels, demons, ghosts, zombies, ancient gods, witches, humans with supernatural powers, the list is endless…If you can imagine it, you can create it.
For instance, look at how Lynsay Sands Argeneau Vampire mythology completely changed the typical vampire myth. Her vampires came from Atlantis! Sherrilyn Kenyon also changed the Vampire myth with her Darkhunter series. Valiant warriors brought back from the dead by the Goddess of war to protect humankind.
What could possibly be better than creating your own world as an author? And as a reader, what’s better than escaping to world where anything can happen? For instance in my new release, Bear Hearts, the heroine is dying of leukemia. Yet, if she mates with a shifter it will save her life. Wouldn’t it be fabulous if that could happen in real life? I lost my mother to cancer on January 11, 2015, and this book is dedicated to her. 10% of the proceeds from Bear Hearts are going to the American Cancer Society.
What else is great about paranormal romance? The heroes! Because these heroes aren’t “human” they can display traits we wouldn’t accept in a human hero. Alphas. Dominance. Protectiveness. Kind of that caveman thing. Sometimes, they can be stuffy and old-fashioned. Sometimes chivalrous and gentlemanly. And my favorite, growly and gruff.
Of course the heroines are nothing to sneeze at either. You almost never find a paranormal romance heroine who is a damsel in distress. Oh, no! These are some kick-ass ladies. Quick with the smart-ass remarks, not afraid to fight beside their man and go buy new shoes when blood spatters mar the old ones.
In short, paranormal romance is escapism. A place to go and escape real life for a few hours with a dark and handsome vampire or a hot and sexy bear shifter. (hint, hint)
Thank you for having me today, and happy reading!
Hugs,
Tamara!

Bear Hearts

BLURB:

Fate brought them together. Lies keep them apart. Love could set them free. All they need is to trust in Bear Hearts.
Fate has dealt bear shifter Martin Kruger and rotten hand. His destined mate, Dr. Elizabeth Montrose, is the enemy and suffers from a fatal illness. He‘s waited over two hundred years for a mate he might never have the chance to claim.

Elizabeth has long ago given up dreams of love, marriage and children. Her life is her research and now that is gone in a puff of smoke, thanks to the bears of Honey Corners. A tiny spark of hope blooms in her heart when the handsome bear tells her they are mates, but will that instinctual bond be enough to overcome all that stands between them?

Excerpt :

Prologue- 1994

Pale and weak, the child lay on the stark white sheets of the big bed that made her look so tiny. The khaki colored U.S. Army ball cap that rested on her head enhanced the sallow tone of her skin, but Lizzy never took that cap off. Daddy gave it to her, and she was Daddy’s girl. He said it would make her strong, like him. She needed to be strong, because she felt so weak.

Her big, brown eyes scanned the room she had been confined to for the last two weeks. Stark white walls, the same boring flower picture, she’d been staring at so long, raindrops slowly sliding down the outside of the always closed window. She was so tired. Tubes in her nose, I.V. in her arm, pain everywhere.

Where were Mommy and Daddy? One of them was usually in the chair by her bed when she woke up. It didn’t matter, she couldn’t keep her eyes open much longer anyway. She’d go back to sleep and they’d be there when she woke up. Well, if she woke up. She heard the doctor’s talking, and she knew the truth; she might die soon.

It wasn’t so bad. If she died she would live with the angels and all the pain would stop. But, Daddy kept saying she had to fight, and mommy would cry…

    1. I'm mostly a pantster Mai, I have a general idea of the plot when I start the book, but the small details the characters tell me as we go along. :)

  2. "Of course the heroines are nothing to sneeze at either." -> TOTALLY TRUE. I love SHERRILYN KENYON's DARK HUNTER series and I remember wanting to be (still want actually) TORY. She's this nerdy research person at first BUT SHE BECAME A GODDESS. Oh and let's not forget ELENA from NALINI SINGH's GUILD HUNTER series. A vampire hunter turned badass hybrid angel. Who wouldn't love THAT?

"And as a reader, what’s better than escaping to world where anything can happen?"
-->Again, true. I think when you're a reader, you live a thousand lives because for a while, a book is real, the environment is real, the characters are real and ANYTHING CAN HAPPEN.

And that's why I love Paranormal Romance. I love romance, but when you add something else to that, it adds spice to it.Totally agree with Miss Tamara! :)

  4. I like Paranormal books because the rules are different every day life is never boring and I love reading about shifters and other wordly creatures. The women in the story don't have to be the one being looked after she can be the main character and the heroine of the story.
