I use the knife as a marker, drawing a pattern without drawing blood. Her eyes anxiously follow the tip, as if she’s trying to prepare for something. The thing is that she’ll never know when it’s coming. That look on her face, priceless. So torturous, the way she’s unraveling bit by bit … it’s like food for my soul.

She shakes her head.

“I don’t fucking believe you,” I snap, grabbing her pussy with one hand, which makes her jolt up. “I bet this pussy here will tell me the truth.”

“No,” she says, still shaking.

“What are you so afraid of?” I muse. “This knife? Blood? Pain? Death? What?”

The way she says it, without any doubt, takes me by surprise, and for a moment, I don’t know what to say. I thought she’d say pain, or even death, but instead, she says something that causes my heart to shrivel up and die. At least, it feels like that. Like my heart is burning a hole in her chest. That or her eyes. Either way, I’m fucked now. I started feeling something I shouldn’t have.

I lean in to look her in the eyes. “Can’t you feel the excitement rushing through your body? The adrenaline pumping through your veins? Isn’t it so much better than the lifeless statue-like doll you’ve been these past few years?”

“I …” she stutters. “I don’t know.”

1. What kind of book is Stalker?

Stalker is a Dark Romantic Suspense, filled with hate, lies, lust, sex, and much, much more. ;) It’s not for the faint-hearted, but I promise you, if you sit through it, it will be worth it!

2. Where do you get your ideas?

I get my ideas from movies, books, and sometimes even the stories people tell me. I love drawing inspiration from things I’ve seen or witnessed in the past. Sometimes, ideas can also just spring into my mind out of nowhere, it’s like they just appear. It’s amazing. Once I have an idea, it still takes month to take the form of a book, though. Usually it begins with a ‘what if’ question, a few characters, bits and pieces of action or things that happen … and the before I know it, there’s a complete story on my desk!

3. What’s the hardest part of the writing process?

The hardest part would be the creation of the storyline. The idea always begins with flashes, little scenes, but for a book I have to string those scenes together to form a coherent story. Sometimes, I have to shift around the scenes, or change course in the middle, but in the end it always turns out to be perfect! :)

4. What do you always need to have with you when you write?

I always need to have my bottle of water with me when I write, as well as some peace & quite, and some good music. ;) I also love to have a cup of hot tea next to me, but it’s not a requirement to write an awesome book!

5. You’re book is going to be made into a movie. Who play the lead roles?

For Stalker, I would say Michael Malarkey as Phoenix (With some added piercings and tattoos), and Candice Accola as Vanessa. As actors, those two match the best, but I didn’t style my characters after actors. My real role models are Stephen James & Mikkel Jensen for Phoenix, and Marina, from Marina And The Diamonds (the singer) for Vanessa.

6. What books can we expect from you in the future?

My next book will most likely be Twenty-One (21), and it has someone from Stalker in the leading role. GUEST INTERVIEW WITH BECKY WICKS – author of Before He Was Famous (HotFlush #1)

Becky Wicks is a HarperCollins author going indie with her new adult romance, Before He Was Famous – a steamy suspense-riddled story of lifelong love and friendships set in a world of celebrity and social media gone very, very wrong. Becky talks being a gypsy nomad, what she learnt from her villain, how to deal with negative criticism as an author and offers advice for writers starting out!  

Where do your ideas come from?

My twisted, warped imagination, mostly, (does that make me sound weird?!) Seriously though, I spent way too many hours immersed in Enid Blyton’s awesome worlds of Wishing Chairs and Magic Faraway Trees when I was a kid and since then I’ve done a lot of travelling on planet Earth too. I find most of my ideas come from other people, snippets of conversations that I hear and let my imagination continue!

List 5-10 musts every story in your genre should have

Oooh good one. Well, in the new adult genre I think you should probably have a very likeable female lead and an interesting, well developed male, too. Sex is a must, but not too smutty. Suspense, drama and a good strong plot!

What lessons did you learn from your villain?

This surprised me because originally Courtney Lentini was the villain in this story, but the more I wrote, the more I realized that she too was a victim with a tragic past, who was just being played by the media. I had to go back and edit her quite a lot. I think every villain has a vulnerability about them which makes them act a certain way – I tried to squeeze that out of her.

Take us through a day with (you) behind the scenes

Well, I’m kind of a gypsy nomad, really! I’m currently in Bali, which I discovered writing my travel memoir Balilicious. It’s become a second home, and so have the gorgeous Gili Islands in Lombok. I tend to write most of the day though, maybe 10-12 hours a day both on books and other freelance projects. But I also like playing guitar, drinking rum cocktails and talking to interesting strangers!

How did you handle the research for the book?

Obviously Noah wins a TV show that I imagined to be quite similar to X Factor or The Voice, so I watched a lot of those kind of shows! I also watched Katy Perry’s Part of Me and One Direction’s This Is Us in preparation because those documentaries show life behind the scenes for these people. I thought I should try and know as much as possible about how Noah’s world might evolve and spin out of control. I also spent some time in Boulder, Colorado – that was a pretty interesting time!

Any advice for writers starting out?

If you want to sell books, research is the key! I was once lucky enough to meet the amazing Bryce Courtney (The Power of One) who pulled me aside when I was a non-fiction writer penning travel memoirs and said “Be Commercial.” At first I thought, no way, I want to write what I want to write! But he was right. You have to write what interests you, but to be in with a chance at selling books you have to write what other people want to read, too. Ask around. Is there a story waiting to be told, that you could tell best? Research all you can and get going!

If you’d never heard of your book, would you read it?

HAHA! If I say yes, will I be crucified? Personally I tried to write the story I always wanted to read, which was advice I read from another writer, I think. Write what you want to read! I’ve always like stories about friends becoming lovers. But I thought I could try to add a different spin by mixing that relationship with a behind-the-scenes-take on fame and the music industry, which is always interesting to watch on these reality shows!

How do you handle negative criticism?

Hmm. Well, obviously when you put your work out there into the public realm after working so hard on it, you hope it will be well received, so there’s always that sting when you read a bad review or see someone didn’t like it. Constructive criticism is helpful and appreciated, but these days some people just write mean things and leave you hanging, wondering what on earth you did wrong! All authors go through it, and we’re a sensitive bunch so we kind of get together to help one another through the bad days! The thing to remember I think is that you can’t please all the people, all the time. Everyone’s entitled to their own opinions. Dwelling on those negative things just drains you of your power and energy. It’s better to focus on the positive and carry on writing!

What would you tell a new author?

Know your audience and never rely on anyone else to sell your book for you. You are your most powerful marketing tool. If you want to write a book and sell it, you have to think about the selling while you’re still writing it! My author friend Sarah Alderson and I have written several articles on the pros and cons of indie versus mainstream which you can find on my blog. Also, don’t give up. If getting your work out there means the world to you, be prepared to move the world to make it happen!!!

I am 42 and have always lived in Colorado. I have been married for 21 years and we have 5 sons…and those are my favorite things…my men

 As an author, I’m sure you’re also a reader. How much do you read in a year?

Not nearly enough. I have started listening to audio books and I’m reading much more. But really I’m lucky if I get in 12-15 books a year.

 What are your expectations about being an author?

I expect to always be learning. This industry changes on a dime and you have to be ready. People view emotions different when the world changes as it does. So you have to observe and keep changing your characters too.

 Are you hanging out in any social media? Which ones are you using mostly?

What are your all-time most favorite and least favorite books?

My favorite book will always be IF TOMORROW COMES by Sidney Sheldon. I can’t say I have a least favorite. I guess I wouldn’t have finished it then.

What is your inspiration source? 

Life and country music. I can write a book about almost anything. A line in a song. A feeling. You falling down the stairs at the elementary school. Inspiration is all around.

I’ve been writing stories on my own since I was a child. What advice would you give new authors like me?

Don’t ever stop. Also, don’t write too much. By that I mean write it one time all the way through. Leave the editing for when you’re done. Then edit and revise one time and find yourself an editor. DO NOT kill the manuscript by messing with it too much.

 Do you have/have you had another job besides being an author?

I am the CEO of 5 Prince Publishing.

What do your family and friends think about you being an author?

They are very supportive and wonderful about it. My husband is a walking advertisement.

Interview with Kirsty Moseley

1 * Hi, Kirsty we want to know you. Can you tell us somethings about you?

Well, I’m old enough to know better, but young enough that I don’t care! I’m a huge reader, I’m a mummy of one eight-year-old boy, chocoholic, animal lover, and am fluent in sarcasm. I am originally from Hertfordshire in England (just outside London) so I had a slight cockney accent - basically means I don’t pronounce my ‘H’s and any word that ends in ‘er’ sounds more like it ends in an ‘A’  for example - “I’m going ‘ome to have some toast and butta” Yep, that’s basically how I talk!

2 *   Tell me a secret about one of your book? What was the idea behind the book?

I don’t really have any secrets for them…. umm…. pass??  I can tell you where the idea came from Nothing Left to Lose though. That was actually a dream I had. The beginning part, where Anna is at the club and her boyfriend is murdered, that was actually a nightmare I had one night. I woke up crying and struggling to breathe. The dream and Anna’s character kept playing around and around in my head for days after, and I kept adding little bits to it. As soon as I added Ashton Taylor I knew I had to get the story down on paper.  

3* You are an author. I'm assuming that you're reading books. How much you could read in a year?

I love reading! I used to read a lot more than I do now, actually. before I started publishing I tended to have more time to read so I’d easily get through two books a week at least, now though I’ll be lucky if I get time to read one book a week. My little boy keeps me busy too, so I don’t have as much reading time as I’d like.

4* What's your expectation about being an author?

I don’t have any expectations at all about it. To be honest, I’m a very shy person so I was happy to keep the author side of me secret for a long time. I just live my life as I normally would, but now I get to pay my bills by doing something that I love. It’s only recently (after almost two years in publishing) that people that I know have found out about me being an author! Crazy, but I liked the anonymity of it, I’m going to miss having a secret profession. haha.  

5* Are you hanging out in any social media? Which ones you're using mostly?

OK, here’s a confession - I’m a total techno-fail! I’m not good with social media at all, Twitter scares me, a lot! I’m on there, I can reply and tweet, but the whole thing baffles me. Facebook is where I’m at! I can handle Facebook, as a technophobe, it seems easier for me to navigate. If you want to contact me, do it there!

6* What's your all time Best/Worst Book?

Hmm, now this is a tough question. It’s hard to choose just one book as my all-time best/favourite book. The Harry Potter series will always have a place in my heart, and I absolutely can’t wait for my little boy to get a little older so he can read them for himself, but on the other hand, a book that has stayed with me the most and touched me while reading it - The Green Mile by Stephen King. I read it before they made the film and loved it, cried so hard while reading it that I had to put it down for a couple of hours actually. So it’s a toss up between Harry Potter and The Green Mile, both different, both incredible and inventive in their own rights. Is it cheating choosing two???

7* I'm writing stories on my own since I was a child. Can you give advice like me and other eager's?

I started out posting my stories on an amateur writing site. The feedback on there (both good and bad) helped me develop as a writer, it helps build confidence, shows you where you’re strong and where you lacking so you can learn from it. I’d maybe suggest giving that a try. You have nothing to lose by it, and building a following is always beneficial before you move to publishing. The one thing I would say to anyone is: don’t give up! If you have a story in your heart, tell it, even if no one reads it, write it for yourself.

8* Do you have/had an another job besides being an author?

Other than being an author I’m a full time mum, housewife, cleaner, cook, taxi driver, sports cheerleader, and nurse whenever someone is sick….. don’t get paid for any of those jobs though, they’re just a perk of being a wife and mummy. :)

9* Your family and friends what are they talking about you,being an author?

When I first told my parents I was writing I was so embarrassed. I was still suffering from lack of confidence and I wasn’t sure what they were going to think about it - but I needn’t have worried, as soon as I told them they supported me wholeheartedly. My dad is extremely proud of me and tells literally every one that he meets that his daughter is a writer. Kind of embarrassing but nice at the same time.

10*I just want to say, I read and fell in love all of your books.It was so excited to interviewing with you. Is there a something you want to add?

1 * Hi, Sandra we want to know you.Tell us some things about you.

Thank you for having me today! I'm happy to reveal a bit about myself. I grew up in the Midwest US in the fifties, moved to Portland, Oregon in 1980 after living in Missouri, Kansas, Alaska, Texas, and Arizona, not in that order. My favorite things are not things, but people and places (still nouns!). My daughter, son and grandchildren, my close friends here and around the world; places: New York City, the Grand Canyon, San Francisco, Egypt, Turkey, Venice, Paris, London, and especially Ireland.

2 *  Tell me secrets about your book. Why did you come up with this name? What was the idea behind the book?

 This series is what I call descended from The Complete Sherlock Holmes. My Sherlock is actually Shirley Combs and her sidekick/narrator is Dr. Mary Watson, a naturopath. The books are set in present day Portland, Oregon. This one is The Illustrious Client, and I got the name from The Adventures of the Illustrious Client by A. Conan Doyle. The secret is

3* You are an author. I'm assuming that you're also a reader. How much do you read in a year?

  I read 50-100 books every year. I used to read my favorites over and over, but that was before I became an author, met other authors and want to read their books in addition to reading authors I don't know personally. I belong to two book clubs. I buy books, borrow books, and check books out of the library.

4* What's your expectation about being an author?  

That I will write until I die. I hope I also publish a lot more books.

5* Are you hanging out on any social media? Which ones do you use most?

  I'm on FaceBook every day, Twitter most days, and I write a blog (well two if you count my cat Stanton's blog).

6* What's your all time Best/Worst Book?

 I won't diss a book. If I don't like it, I stop reading it and move on. Way too many good books to waste my time. The Dollmaker by Harriet Simpson Arnow is one of the books I read many times. I love all of Kate Kasten's books, and the one most overlooked is The De-Conversion of Kit Lamb.

7* I've been writing stories on my own since I was a child. Can you give advice to aspiring authors like me?

 Write every day. When we write every day the story we're working on is alive in us all the time so we are working on it even when we aren't writing. Read good authors, not to write like them, but to see what it is they're doing that makes them "good." Take classes or workshops in areas you feel less strong in: structure, plot development, characterization, dialogue, whichever it is for you. And make time in your life to write every day, even for ten minutes.

8* Do you have another job besides being an author? 

Not any more. I'm retired from the day job. But I wrote every day for twenty years while I also raised a family and worked full time.
